As a writer with a background in art history, Kyla enjoys playing with the relationship between image and text. Her cartoon, Flora Bulaklak, is inspired partly by her grandmother, Flora, and partly by one of her favorite childhood figure, Amelia Bedelia. She is also working on a screenplay for an animated short that continues to tinker with image and text (stay tuned), and she runs The Lupa Newsletter, a submission-based newsletter that features stories and poetry from Filipinos globally.
