ARTIST & AFFILIATE PROFILES

All ARTIST and AFFILIATE members have access to creating and editing their own profile. Once an account has been created, ARTISTS and AFFILIATES will be prompted to provide a written Statement and a Profile Photo.

TIP: We suggest using a headshot with your artwork in the background for your Profile Photo. Viewers are more likely to click when they have that extra visual cue as to the kind of work you do!

After that, whenever you are logged in, you can click on the DASHBOARD button located at the top right hand corner to add more information.

NOTE: If you experience any issues seeing any changes you saved to your profile, email membership@aawaa.net. A staff member will be able to assist you in troubleshooting the issue and if necessary, making the edits you’d like on your profile within about a week.

Reviewing Edits to Your Profile

Currently, there is no way of viewing updates you make to your profile while you are editing it in your DASHBOARD. Here are some suggested steps you can take to view edits as you make them:

  • Open two tabs: one to view the DASHBOARD where you can edit your profile and the other to view your profile
  • After making any edits in your DASHBOARD, make sure to save any changes
  • Click and refresh the second tab with your profile to see how it looks!

If you notice that your profile is not being updated with any changes you've made on your DASHBOARD or if you would like to remove any content from your profile, please contact membership@aawaa.net.

Tips for Creating a Searchable Profile

Visitors to AAWAA’s Membership Directory may arrive at the site wanting to search for a specific type of artist or art professional. Visitors to the site may range from artists, curators, researchers and more.

Here are some tips to create the most effective and searchable profile:
  • Use a headshot with your artwork in the background for your Profile Photo. Viewers are more likely to click when they’re scrolling and have that extra visual cue as to the kind of work you do!
  • Add URLs for your website and social media handles so visitors can take a look at more of what you do!
  • Make sure DETAILS on your profile are filled in, such as Location, Discipline, Medium and Ethnicity
  • Use keywords in your statement or bio that you think will most often be searched.

GETTING CONNECTED

Google Group

One way members can connect with other members and share announcements is through the AAWAA Member Google group.

All members are added to the group upon creating an account within about a week, allowing them to send and receive emails to and from all currently active AAWAA Members.

Canceled members are also removed from the Google Group on a weekly basis.

All currently active members may email aawaa-members@googlegroups.com to send announcements, share events, ask questions and connect with other members.

Discord

Another way members can connect with each other is through the AAWAA Member Discord.

All members will be sent a one-time use link within about a week of creating their account. The invite link usually expires within about 7 days, so make sure to sign up as soon as you get it!

If you do not already have an account with Discord, you may create one to join AAWAA’s Member server.

Canceled members are removed from the AAWAA Member Discord server on a weekly basis.

More guidelines and support related to Discord are available on Discord once signed in.

If you experience any issues logging into the Discord server, please contact membership@aawaa.net

COMMUNITY EVENT LISTINGS

All AAWAA Members may submit event and opportunity listings through the Community Events form. Listings submitted through this form are posted on the Community Events page of AAWAA’s website and on AAWAA’s e-newsletter. Please allow up to a week for events to make it on the website.

AAWAA Members may also submit published writing and articles for AAWAA to post excerpts on AAWAA's News page. Simply email membership@aawaa.net with the link to the published article.

MEMBER PROGRAMS

STUDIO HOURS

AAWAA organizes monthly art salons, called “Studio Hours,” as a benefit to all AAWAA members every last Saturday of the month (with a few exceptions below). Studio Hours are an opportunity for members to connect with each other, share works in progress, visit an exhibition, share and learn new artistic and professional skills and network with special guests in the field.

Studio Hours are curated and programmed by AAWAA’s Membership and Program staff at least 6 months in advance. Any AAWAA member may suggest or propose a topic for Studio Hours by emailing membership@aawaa.net.

All members may also bring up to one guest to Studio Hours. Members and guests may register for Studio Hours on Eventbrite. AAWAA will always share the Eventbrite registration page in advance of each month’s Studio Hours on the Community Events page and e-newsletter.

Studio Hours take place in the following months:
  • January
  • February
  • April
  • June
  • August
  • September
  • October
Studio Hours are not hosted in the following months due to reasons laid out below:
  • March - AAWAA’s Annual Slide Slam occurs in place of monthly studio hours as a way to more formally present artwork, gather and network with other members - scroll down for more info
  • May - AAPI Heritage Month events. We encourage you to attend any events in your area!
  • July - AAWAA’s annual survey month
  • November & December - Holidays

SLIDE SLAM

In celebration of Women’s History Month, AAWAA organizes a Slide Slam on the last Saturday of March. The Slide Slam is an annual event where AAWAA Artist Members and other invited AAPI women artists present their work in a rapid-fire format of 4 slides in 4 minutes. This program is an opportunity for AAWAA’s artist community to network with special guests who include prominent educators, curators, gallerists, researchers, collectors and other art professionals.

CANCELING YOUR MEMBERSHIP

We're sorry to see you go! If you decide to cancel your membership, your membership will stay active through the remainder of your current subscription period. (For example, if your membership renews on February 1st, but you cancel your membership on January 1st, your membership will continue to stay active until February 1st.)

Until the expiration date, you will continue to have access to your profile, the AAWAA Member Google Group and Discord. Once your membership closes, you will no longer have access to these benefits.

If you still see your profile after your subscription has ended and see that it has not been archived, please contact membership@aawaa.net. Similarly, if you rejoin as a member after you have canceled and do not see your profile appear in the membership directory, please contact membership@aawaa.net for support to unarchive your profile.

Either way, you have joined an expanding community of Asian American and Pacific Islander women identified artists. We’d be happy to stay in touch and welcome you if you ever decide to return and reactivate your membership.
